COP30 will have a dedicated space for the agricultural sector with participation from Sedap and Embrapa 3v3j3a

Of fundamental importance for food security, the agricultural sector will have its own discussion space during the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), which will be held in Belém in November this year. The "AgriZone" — or "agricultural zone" — will operate at the headquarters of Embrapa Amazônia Oriental and will have the active participation of the Secretary of Agricultural Development and Fisheries (Sedap), representing the Government of Pará in the "House of Sustainable Agriculture."
Last Friday (6), representatives from Sedap and Embrapa met to formalize the partnership between the institutions in planning and executing activities aimed at COP30. During the meeting, held at the secretariat's headquarters, actions were discussed to strengthen sustainable production systems and advance Pará's agriculture, focusing on productivity for both large and small producers.
The head of Sedap, Giovanni Queiroz, host of the meeting, announced that next week representatives from the secretariat will visit the 3,000-hectare space of Embrapa, which is being adapted to house the AgriZone.
"It is important to have this partnership. We will visit the physical space to define our structure and ensure a suitable environment to receive visitors and show what we are doing for the environment, both in Pará and worldwide," said the secretary.
According to him, the partnership with Embrapa will be intensified so that the technical knowledge of the institution is increasingly incorporated into government actions. Queiroz also highlighted that the State offers productive arrangements aimed especially at small producers, with regional crops such as açaí, cocoa, and palm oil.
"COP30 discusses the environment, carbon sequestration and its fixation, and all of this goes through agriculture. Without it, there is no carbon capture. Embrapa is fundamental in transforming Brazil's agricultural economy. We are world leaders in food production thanks to the technology developed by it, which allows the adaptation of various productive arrangements to our tropical region," he declared.

During the meeting, Embrapa representatives learned details of the ABC+Pará program, which seeks to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Pará's agriculture through sustainable agricultural practices. Embrapa is already participating in actions related to the program's goals, set for 2030, as reminded by the program coordinator, Tiago Catuxo.
Embrapa was represented by the Director of Governance and Information, Alderi Emidio de Araujo, who is visiting the state. He was accompanied by the director's advisor, Fernanda Beserra Evaristo Carvalho; the general head of Embrapa Amazônia Oriental, Walkymário Lemos; and researcher Adriano Venturieri.
For Emidio, the partnership between Embrapa and the Government of Pará is essential to drive the sustainable transformation of the state’s agriculture.
"An alliance with Sedap is fundamental for us to advance in strategic themes, leveraging Pará's potential to reach new levels of production, with quality and sustainability. The message that Pará should take to COP30 is that of a state that is producing with environmental responsibility and low carbon emissions, overcoming its challenges with technology and innovation," he stated.
He also advocated for collaboration with private and public institutions to strengthen agriculture and livestock in the state. "There is technology available. Together, we can build an increasingly sustainable Pará with a strong agricultural sector," he reinforced.
In addition to Secretary Giovanni Queiroz, the meeting was attended by Sedap's agricultural director, Marcos Grande; the coordinator of the Sustainable Territories Program and the ABC+Pará Plan, Tiago Catuxo; and the coordinator of the Geographic Indication and Collective Brands Incentive Program of the State, agronomist Márcia Tagore.
