The Public Security and Social Defense Secretariat of Pará (Segup) continues with the integrated actions of the second phase of the "Operation Esparavel", which mobilizes 80 security agents in Igarapé-Miri and surrounding areas. The offensive aims to maintain positive public safety indices and combat illicit activities in the urban, rural, and riverside zones of the municipality.

The name of the operation refers to a circular net used for artisanal fishing, similar to a cast net, thrown over the water to catch fish — a metaphor for the strategic and comprehensive action of security forces in the region.

After fulfilling judicial warrants and making arrests during the day, the forces reinforced ostensive policing this Friday (6), focusing on areas of greater vulnerability. Igarapé-Miri has gone more than 70 days without ing Intentional Violent Deadly Crimes (CVLI), according to Segup, and the operation seeks to preserve this peaceful scenario, in addition to combating thefts and burglaries, especially in hard-to-reach areas.

Urban, rural, and riverside actions

The teams conducted inspections in commercial establishments, police barriers at the city entrances and main roads, as well as riverine actions in the region's rivers and channels, to inhibit the circulation of weapons, drugs, and fugitives.

According to Colonel Maurício Santana, commander of the Regional Policing Command IX (R IX), the initial results are positive:

Delegate Hennison Jacob head of the Interior Police Directorate (DPI)

“We started the operation successfully. We have already managed to seize weapons, arrest fugitives, and intensify actions in urban and riverside areas with about 60 agents, in addition to the local workforce. We will maintain patrols, approaches, and inspections. The 181 hotline is available for public reports. The expectation is excellent for the people of Igarapé-Miri,” he stated.

Delegate Hennison Jacob, director of the Civil Police of the Interior, emphasized that the action is strategic and may be expanded:

“The operation aims to protect those who live, work, and circulate in the municipality. The government is monitoring the data and may extend the action to neighboring cities such as Mocajuba, Baião, and Cametá, whenever necessary,” he highlighted.

Involved forces

The operation involves specialized teams from various institutions:

- Military Police: Canine Action Battalion (BAC), Metropolitan Tactical Ostensive Patrol (Rotam), Independent River Policing Company (Cipflu);

- Civil Police: Coordination of Operations and Special Resources (CORE);

- Penitentiary istration Secretariat (Seap): Search and Recapture Group (GBR).

The "Operation Esparavel" is another demonstration of the State Government's commitment to integrated, preventive, and resolutive public safety, especially in the most sensitive areas of the interior of Pará.
