The State Secretariat for the Environment, Climate and Sustainability (Semas) conducted a technical visit this week to the headquarters of the Cooperative of Recyclable Material Collectors (Concaves), located in Belém. The action aimed to map in detail the activities carried out by the cooperative, which works with the collection and sorting of solid waste in the Metropolitan Region of the capital of Pará.

During the visit, the technical team from Semas evaluated the physical structure, the equipment used, the organization of work processes, and the pace of daily activities at Concaves. The information collected will the preparation of a technical report that will indicate paths for possible and investments through the Regulariza Pará Program, which aims to strengthen socio-environmental initiatives in the state.

"This visit was essential for us to understand Concaves' future planning, what their real needs are in the current phase of structuring the cooperative, and how public policy can act to strengthen the work that is already being developed by them," highlighted the Deputy Secretary of Environmental Management and Regularity at Semas, Rodolpho Zahluth Bastos.

In addition to the structural analysis, the action focused on understanding the direct social impact of the cooperative on the lives of the workers. Concaves also plays a relevant role in urban sustainability by collaborating with the correct disposal of waste and reducing environmental impacts in Belém and its surroundings.

The waste picker and president of the Central of the Amazon, Jonas de Jesus, thanked Semas for their presence and reinforced the importance of selective collection for the entire city.

"The presence of Semas here is essential to guide us, our environmental license, and make the necessary observations. Concaves is a cooperative that operates in the metropolitan region, especially in Belém, carrying out selective collection, environmental education, and implementing services in various locations, such as public agencies, buildings, and schools. We thank the entire Semas team that was present. We want Belém to adequately serve all its citizens, as well as the tourists who visit the city," he concluded.
